hmmm, is xxx on it's way?

There was a report today that says ICANN have approved the use of .xxx domain names.

Principally they would be used for adult content sites but I think the TLD will look cool!

Tech Watch have reported that we should expect a formal announcement from ICANN today and that the new domains will be available next year.

What’s the material impact?

You have to think that if you have a brand you need to protect it. If you don’t own the .co.uk, the .com and the, and the, and the domain you stand a good chance that somebody will take it and use it for themselves – then their site could potentially be displayed in the search engines in place of yours...

I’m on the fence with this one, I can see that it would be a great way to identify adult content sites but I also think it’s going to be a money making exercise for many and a cost for most of us!
